Lay Chaplains Installed

(posted 1/29/2012)

Two Seton parishioners were installed last week as lay volunteer chaplains at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.  Donna Vallario and Janet Angelillo completed six months of training in pastoral care at the hospital. They now join 30 other lay chaplains who assist Fr. Vernon and other clergy in visiting and offering comfort to the sick. Congratulations,

Donna and Janet!

Woman of Distinction

(posted 1/31/2012)

Katherine Quinn, longtime parishioner and Director of our Parish Development Committee (50/50 raffle, Annual Parish Ball, etc.), has been nominated to be this inaugural year’s honoree as “Woman of Distinction” by the Yorktown Town Board in response to State Senator Greg Ball’s request for nominations. She was chosen as one of a dozen outstanding local women for her work as director of Support Connection, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that offers free, emotional, social and educational support services to anyone affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Congratulations, Kathy!

Evening Weekday Masses

(posted 12/22/2011)

Regretfully, as of Jan. 2nd the 7:00 PM Masses on Monday, Thursday and First Fridays will no longer appear on our regular schedule. Over the last couple of years, fewer and fewer parishioners have made use of them.

The usual evening Masses for Religious Ed. classes, deceased members of the Altar and Rosary Society, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus/Columbiettes and the Legion of Mary will, of course, continue as scheduled by each parish group, and we urge more parishioners to take advantage of them.

Did You See That Article?

In the December 15th edition of Catholic New York, the editors published some statistics for the Annual Stewardship Campaign. Among the parishes with the largest number of donors our parish, with 642 donors, is #5; that’s fifth out of almost three hundred parishes!! [Saint Patrick’s Cathedral came in 8th!!] What a parish! What tremendous people! Congratulations.

A Refund!:

(posted 11/23/2011)

You may recall, we exceeded our Stewardship Appeal goal of $119,000,by over $5,000, in May for the first time in ten years! Last week, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese forwarded a refund check for $633.12 to be used by us as needed. We'll take it!

Sunday Nov. 27:

(posted 11/23/2011)

You have no doubt noticed how carefully we have been preparing for the new translation of the Roman Missal.  This Sunday, the First Sunday in Advent, you will be greeted by: a) brand new Word and Song Books (Missalettes) in the pew racks, with page-size laminated CARDS containing all the Mass responses. This will make it unnecessary for you to flip pages back and forth from Scripture readings to the responses throughout the Mass; and ) a reproduced COPY of the laminated card at the ends of the pews so that you can leave the card in the Word and Song Book, and take home your own copy.

Ball Update:

(posted 11/23/2011)

Kathy Quinn and the Ball Committee report a net profit of $9,920.10 from Friday's Ball.

THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

 No one had authorization to hand out political material at our parking lot exits the weekend before election day.

"Campaign do's and don'ts..."

Consolidated Bill Paid:

(posted 11/23/2011)

Due to your special generosity through the red-bordered envelopes, we raised $174,000 and were able to pay the complete bill of $221,564.61 for employee pensions, insurance and the ongoing parish assessment through September 30th. We thank you and commend you for coming to the aid of our parish, in the midst of a very painful economic downturn. Monsignor and the Pastoral staff try very hard to economize and pay as many of our expenses as soon as possible.

Emergency Maintenance:

(posted 11/23/2011)

Where does that monthly collection go? Here is a sampling of recent, unexpected needs:

a) $9,000 loss of a weekend collection (plus make-up funds the following weekend);

b) $3,000 October snow removal;

c) $35,000, classroom thermostat installation to save energy;

d) $10,000 replacement of a major pipe system in the alleyway between the Pre-K/K pod and the boiler room.

Thank you for your consistent support. We couldn't get along without it.
