Homework

Homework is necessary for positive reinforcement of each day's work.

Approximate time allotments:

Grade 1 —

30 minutes:
15 minutes oral reading; 15 minutes written work

Grade 2 —

45 minutes:
at least 15 minutes on oral reading

Grade 3 — one hour:
at least 15 minutes on oral reading
Grade 4 — an hour and a half:
still 15 minutes on oral reading
Grades 5
to 8 —
two and a half hours:
approximately 30 minutes on each subject. Independent reading: at least 2 or 3 books a month are required.

Independent Reading is critical for each child's progress. Each child is expected to have a library/reading book with him/her every day. Time is provided in class for this reading. Each night, students are expected to read at least 15 minutes, record the time on the CLIP calendar and keep a record of their readings. Summaries of readings are collected every month and recorded on each report card.
