The Community Food Pantry located at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Mohegan Lake is open every Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. It is a "choice" pantry— meaning the clients who participate can choose what they need from a display of available canned and packaged food items. They do not receive pre-packed bags. The clients prefer this as they only take what they need and it avoids waste. Once a month they offer fresh produce and during the growing season they are able to supplement this with produce from their on-site garden. Local merchants donate
fresh bread, bagels and pastries each week. On the third Sunday of each month, the Church of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton provides a parish wide donation of non-perishable food items to the pantry.
In preparation for the major holidays, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Community Food Pantry provides special items for a festive holiday meal to brighten the spirits of their clients. Easter baskets are distributed and at Christmas children's toys are provided.
There are volunteer opportunities for students who plan to fulfill community service hours. They can help with set-up before the pantry opens as well as carrying groceries for those who need extra assistance.
