Shortly, we will begin training sessions for Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Mass, and to the Homebound.  What’s expected? A candidate must be Catholic, at least 14 years of age to become a Lector / 18 years of age to become a Eucharistic Minister, having received First Holy Communion and Confirmation. The candidate must be leading a life of faith in keeping with the function to be assumed, not bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared, be reverential, respectful of his/her faith, and of good moral character; and if married, be in a valid marriage according to the law of the Catholic Church. Lectors should possess the necessary ability and talents to proclaim the Word of God in a clear, dignified, and effective manner. Extraordinary Ministers who will bring Holy Communion to the sick should be able to minister to the sick in a compassionate, prayerful, and sensitive way. They should possess psychological maturity and the ability to keep confidences, not discussing indiscriminately the condition of patients or their homes. Many signed up on Ministry Weekend.
